Edwards Scholarship
The Mark A. Edwards Ed.D. Education Scholarship was created by the Foundation to assist Henrico County School employees who are pursuing a degree in education. Dr. Edwards served as Henrico’s Superintendent of Schools from 1994-2004. He was committed to creating learning opportunities for Henrico County Public School employees as a means to provide the best education for the students of Henrico County.
The Foundation awards two $1000 scholarships each year to an employee who is pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in education.
Congratulations to the 2009-2010 Edwards Scholarship recipients:
Judy Fitzpatrick, 4th grade SPES
- Master’s in Ecological Teaching and Learning
- Program features 3 weeks in a primitive environmental setting and 3 weeks in an urban site conducting ecological action research
- Goal: to connect outdoor experiences for students in all areas of the curriculum
Karen Schulz Math Teacher, James River Juvenile Detention Center
- Has observed that her students are 2-6 years below grade level in reading skillsm inspiring her to gain the knowledge required to teach secondary students how to read
- Goal: to obtain a Master’s degree in Reading Education
